From Pretty Ricky to Purpose: How Ambition "The Kid" Is Rewriting His Story One Song at a Time

Success may have introduced the world to Ambition "The Kid" as the former lead singer of the multi-platinum R&B group Pretty Ricky, but today, he's proving that his greatest chapter is the one he's writing himself.

During a heartfelt conversation with me on JQLM Radio Special Edition, Ambition opened up about the realities of life after fame, the resilience it takes to keep chasing your dreams, and why purpose will always outlast popularity.

For many artists, walking away from a successful group could feel like the end. For Ambition, it became a new beginning.

"I don't give up easily," he shared. "I'm not going to let someone else or a situation ruin a dream I've had since I was seven years old."

That mindset is exactly what fuels his latest release, The Phoenix Project—an album that perfectly reflects its title. Like the legendary bird rising from the ashes, Ambition has transformed setbacks into strength, creating music that is both authentic and deeply personal.

What stood out most during our conversation wasn't just his talent as a singer, songwriter, dancer, and performer—it was his unwavering commitment to becoming a complete entertainer. Inspired by icons like Michael Jackson, Ambition believes audiences deserve more than great vocals. They deserve an experience.

From cinematic music videos to storytelling performances, every project is intentionally crafted to leave people feeling something long after the music ends.

His newest creative venture, My City Series, does exactly that. Filmed throughout his hometown of Pittsburgh in partnership with Get Ryte Studios, the video series shines a light on hidden gems throughout the city while giving fans an even deeper look into who Ambition really is beyond the stage.

One of the most memorable moments of our interview came when we discussed his single "Get Back to You." While listeners may hear a smooth blend of pop and R&B, the song carries a message many people don't often consider.

Behind the lights, applause, and sold-out performances are real people navigating relationships, family, and sacrifice.

Ambition spoke honestly about how difficult life on the road can be and how challenging it is for loved ones to understand the demands of the entertainment industry. The song serves as a reminder that artists don't stop being human simply because they're famous. They still miss birthdays, postpone date nights, and long to return home to the people they love.

It's a refreshing perspective that many fans rarely get to hear.

When asked what advice he'd give someone chasing their dreams, his answer couldn't have been clearer: Don't wait for opportunity to find you—prepare for it now.

His own career is proof.

After receiving a late-night phone call inviting him to audition for Pretty Ricky, he boarded a plane the very next morning expecting to be gone for a weekend. Instead, he wouldn't return home for nearly a year. Within weeks, he was performing on national television and launching into a career that would change his life forever.

His message?

Stay ready.

Whether your dream is music, business, law, medicine, or entrepreneurship, preparation is what positions you to seize the opportunity when it arrives.

Perhaps the greatest takeaway from our conversation was Ambition's reminder to never lose the people who loved you before success found you. Fame may come and go, but genuine relationships remain one of life's greatest treasures.

Looking ahead, Ambition has no plans of slowing down. Fans can expect more music, more performances, more books, and continued installments of his My City Series, all while expanding the vision behind The Phoenix Project.

If there's one thing this conversation made abundantly clear, it's that Ambition "The Kid" isn't chasing yesterday's success. He's creating tomorrow's legacy.

Sometimes the comeback isn't about returning to where you once were—it's about becoming who you were always meant to be.
